How to keep my carpets clean?
As professional carpet cleaners we are often asked - What is the secret to keeping my carpets clean?
The answer is simpler than you might think - regular vacuum cleaning.
Over 90% of carpet dirt is dry soil so regular vacuum cleaning of your carpets will extend the time that this soil builds up thus will keep your carpets looking cleaner and your home will be healthier.
This of course does not mean that you will never need a professional carpet cleaning as even the most powerful vacuum cleaner can`t extract all dry soil from the base of the carpet pile. The rest of the dirt on your carpet is oil from cooking at home and could be brought from outside.
Vacuum cleaning your carpets also does not remove bacteria and it is proven that when left unmaintained carpet can hold upto 200 000 bacteria per square inch which is about 4000 times more the bacteria in your toilet.
How often should you vacuum clean your carpets?
That really depends on the way you use your carpets and the type of your property - do you wear outside shoes on your carpets, do you have small children and pets, do you smoke in the house, do you have carpets near your kitchen and in the dining room and is your home well ventilated? We know this sounds a lot so the short answer is anywhere from daily if you wear shoes in the house and have children and pets to once a week. In any case we would recommend vacuum cleaning your carpets at least once a week.
What is the best vacuum cleaner for my carpets?
The best vacuum cleaners for carpets are the one with rotary brush. The brush helps to lift the dry soil from your carpets. This is ideal for tufted carpets and long pile carpets. If you have woven fine carpets you might be better off with just a flat brush and low vacuum power to prevent damage on the carpets.
We personally use vacuum cleaners made by SEBO. A great example of a household vacuum cleaner that has a rotary brush and a flat brush is SEBO airbelt c2 total. This is all in one vacuum cleaner that is great for every part of your home - carpets, hard floors and furniture.
So the answer to this question is - don`t wear outside shoes on your carpet, vacuum clean your carpets regularly and have regular professional cleaning - this way your carpets will always look clean, your indoor environment will be healthier and your carpets will last longer thus you will save money in the long run too.
